Description
Octafluorocyclobutane, or perfluorocyclobutane, C4F8, is an organofluorine compound which enjoys several niche applications. Octafluorocyclobutane is a colourless gas and shipped as a liquefied gas. It is the perfluorinated analogue of cyclobutane whereby all C–H bonds are replaced with C–F bonds. It is commonly used as food aerosol propellant and medium gas.

Electronic Industry
In the electronics industry, octafluorocyclobutane is used as a monomer synthesis of polytetrafluoroethylene, polyhexafluoroethylene and other monomers, as well as an insulating gas for manufacturing semiconductor devices and integrated circuits.
Food Aerosol Spray
Due to its stability and non-toxic properties, octafluorocyclobutane is used as an aerosol spray in food packaging to protect food from oxidation and extrusion and extend the shelf life of food.
Dielectric Gas
In semiconductor manufacturing and precision cleaning and other fields, octafluorocyclobutane is used as a dielectric gas to provide a pollution-free environment to ensure the purity of the process and the quality of the product.
Gas Detector
Octafluorocyclobutane can be used to detect the concentration of gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen, and is widely used in mining, chemical, environmental protection and other fields.
Refrigerant
Octafluorocyclobutane is an excellent coolant with high thermal conductivity and heat capacity. It can quickly absorb heat at low temperatures and quickly cool down the cooled object. It is widely used in refrigeration and air conditioning, cold storage, refrigerated trucks and other fields.
