Description
N-Butane is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H10. It is a common alkane. It is a colorless and easily liquefied gas under normal temperature and pressure.
Typical Application:
Fuel
- N-butane is often mixed with propane as liquefied petroleum gas, which is widely used for home heating, cooking and industrial heating. In addition, n-butane is also used as fuel in lighters and portable butane gas stoves.
Organic Synthesis
- N-butane is an important raw material for organic synthesis. It can be dehydrogenated to form butene or butadiene, and isomerized to form isobutane, which is further catalytically dehydrogenated to form isobutene.
Refrigerant
- N-butane is used as a refrigerant, especially in the process of converting seawater into fresh water.
Other Applications
- N-butane is also used in subcritical biotechnology extraction solvents, standard gases, calibration gases, smoke propellants, ionization particle counters, etc.
