Description
Ethane is an organic compound, a colorless and odorless gas, insoluble in water. It is the second member of the alkane series and the simplest hydrocarbon containing a carbon-carbon single bond. The content of ethane in some natural gas is 5% to 10%, second only to methane; and it exists in petroleum in a dissolved state. Ethane can be separated from oil fields, and can also be obtained from refinery gas separation and cracking gas separation.

Cracking To Make Ethylene
In the chemical industry, ethane is mainly used to produce ethylene by steam cracking. When mixed with steam and added to a high temperature of 900 degrees Celsius or above, heavy hydrocarbons are cracked into light hydrocarbons.
Refrigerant
Ethane can be used as a refrigerant in refrigeration facilities. In scientific research, liquid ethane is used in electron microscopy to make samples with high water content transparent. Thin layers of water freeze quickly when quickly immersed in liquid ethane at -150°C or lower in the facility, and no crystals will form.
Used As A Fuel
Ethane is a common combustible gas and is often stored in liquefied steel cylinders as a gas fuel. Ethane is often used for home heating, cooking and industrial heating.
Organic Synthesis
Ethane can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, such as the synthesis of acetic acid, ethanol, ethylene, ethyl chloride, nitroethane, and the synthesis of polyvinyl acetate, ethyl cellulose, ethylene oxide, etc.
Calibration/Mixture Gases
Ethane is widely used as a calibration gas in industrial sectors such as chemical, metallurgical, electronic, and petroleum, as well as in scientific research, aviation, and other fields.
