European Hydrogen Bank green hydrogen subsidies have shrunk
The EU’s second round of European Hydrogen Bank (EHB) green hydrogen subsidy bidding project, which will be launched in the fall of 2024, has a budget of only 1.2 billion euros (1.3 billion US dollars). This figure is 1 billion euros less than expected, and the EU reportedly denied to stakeholders that it intended to use the remaining 2.2 billion euros for this bidding.
Thailand prepares for hydrogen economy
Thailand is reportedly preparing to build a hydrogen economy, with companies and the state working together to promote the development of hydrogen fuel business to promote the use of clean energy. The country’s potential to build a low-carbon driven economy is emerging as PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC), Thailand’s largest petrochemical producer by capacity, and Bangkok Industrial Gas, Thailand’s largest industrial gas producer by capacity, announced joint research and development of a low-carbon driven economy. The Energy Policy and Planning Office said that the authorities plan to include hydrogen fuel in the revised power development plan, with the goal of making hydrogen power generation account for 5% of the total power supply.
Russian scientists propose a new method to produce hydrogen in gas wells
Researchers at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) in Moscow have proposed a new method to produce hydrogen in gas wells without bringing carbon molecules to the surface. The technology can extract 45% of the total gas volume of the reservoir while leaving the carbon molecules underground. If proven, this will eliminate the need for expensive carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology.
France opens its first MW-class fuel cell factory
Recently, France opened its first MW-class fuel cell factory. It is understood that France’s first MW-class fuel cell factory was completed at the end of June, but specific commercial production is not expected to officially start until 2026. The factory aims to expand to 1GW in 2030.
TotalEnergies and Air Products sign green hydrogen purchase agreement
French energy giant TotalEnergies has signed a 15-year agreement with industrial gas company Air Products. Air Products will supply 70,000 tons of green hydrogen per year to TotalEnergies’ Nordic refineries from 2030. According to the agreement, Air Products will use its global project portfolio to supply green hydrogen to TotalEnergies. Ensure that TotalEnergies can obtain a reliable and stable supply of green hydrogen and use green hydrogen for refinery decarbonization.
New fuel cell vehicle Honda CR-V e:FCEV unveiled in Shanghai
Honda exhibited its new plug-in fuel cell vehicle CR-V e:FCEV at the 2024 International Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cell Vehicle Conference and Exhibition. CR-V e:FCEV is a plug-in fuel cell vehicle with external charging function. It not only has the advantages of long driving range and short hydrogen refueling time of fuel cell vehicles, but can also be charged at home and on the go.
Canada plans to build a huge network of hydrogen production plants
Recently, the British Columbia government of Canada announced a hydrogen energy project. It is reported that the project costs 900 million Canadian dollars (about 650 million US dollars) to support the construction of 20 hydrogen fuel cell vehicle refueling stations in the local area.
Several Japanese companies will launch a $1 billion hydrogen energy fund
Recently, several Japanese companies have made it clear that they will launch a $1 billion hydrogen energy fund. It is understood that the Japanese government has previously publicly stated that it plans to invest 3 trillion yen (about 150 billion yuan) in 15 years to promote the popularization of hydrogen energy. It is worth mentioning that Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has previously promised that according to the bill, the government will invest 3 trillion yen (about 19.24 billion US dollars) to support the promotion of clean hydrogen.
