Methane is the simplest organic matter. As the main component of conventional natural gas, shale gas, combustible ice, etc., methane is a very important carbon-based resource. It is widely distributed in nature and is the main component of natural gas, biogas, pit gas, etc., commonly known as gas. It is also the hydrocarbon with the lowest carbon content (highest hydrogen content). It can be used as a fuel and a raw material for manufacturing substances such as hydrogen, carbon black, carbon monoxide, acetylene, hydrocyanic acid and formaldehyde. On April 2, 2018, researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory directly proved for the first time that methane is causing the greenhouse effect on the earth’s surface to continue to increase.

Household Fuel
Methane is a clean and efficient fuel widely used for home heating, cooking, power generation, etc. Compared with traditional energy sources such as coal and oil, methane combustion produces fewer pollutants and is more environmentally friendly.
Automobile Fuel
Methane can be used as automobile fuel in the form of compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG), which helps reduce pollutant emissions in automobile exhaust, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter.
Rocket Fuel
Due to its high energy density and stable combustion, methane is widely used as rocket fuel.
Synthesis Gas
Methane can be converted into synthesis gas (a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen) through steam reforming reaction, which is further used to synthesize chemical products such as methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen.
